There is no better time to spend with you kids than in the summer. They are free from worrying about homework and schedules. This is also a great time to get them in the kitchen to learn how to make some healthy summer dishes. Cooking is fun and a useful skill for kids to have. Also, there are so many fresh foods available in summer the choices are endless. Below are a couple of healthy and fun family-friendly recipes for summer.

Caprese Salad – This is super easy, tasty and quick.
All you will need are sliced beefsteak tomatoes, sliced fresh mozzarella cheese, julienned fresh basil and good quality extra virgin olive oil. Have the kids arrange the tomato and cheese slices in a plate then top it with the basil and olive oil. That is all there is to it.

Veggie Pizzas – This is always a kid pleaser.
You will need your kids favorite vegetables diced. Some good ones are: broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower, and tomatoes. Also, you will need some organic pizza sauce, low-fat cheese mix and personal sizes whole grain pizza crusts. Have the kids top their pizza with the sauce, vegetables and some low-fat cheese. Then pop it in the oven for them. It is done when the cheese has melted.

Cooking with the kids this summer doesn’t mean fat filled and unhealthy just to be fun. There are many ways to turn favorites into better, healthier choices.
The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: I’m caught in some sort of alternate-pinning-universe, and I want pizza
